Favourite Things Friday 4

Hellooooo…Happy Friday!!

Holy crap it’s already September. What the heck is happening this year? This week has been good thus far. I actually really love September, I always feel like I can restart routines and get focused again. I’ve hit the gym 3 days in a row (I’ll wait for my round of applause to start anytime), and have been eating super well!

Sadly the smoke is still hanging around here, I actually think it’s been worse lately…at this point, I’d even be happy with snow if it was sunshiney!

On to my favourite things, I know you’ve all been dying to know about this.

Getting to start a new day planner in September!
Okay, this is super dorky and I’m well aware of this. That being said, I love love love a good list, book, stationary and day planners definitely top the list for me. I know 90% of the world has changed over to using the calendar on their phones or computers, but for me if I don’t write it down I don’t remember. Pen and paper all the way!

Chapters Planner

Luckily for me, my lovely sister Erica got me a fresh planner for my birthday back in August, so I was set when September rolled around. I am going to try really hard this year to keep this one neat, but we’ll see what happens, sometimes I just have to write or scribble something in quickly.

This is the one that she got me, so far it’s working well! Between keeping track of my hair client appointments, meals, gym times (I told you, I’m trying to be good!!), and social schedule, I need something where each day has a fair bit of writing room, and this one has fit the bill, plus it’s super cute.

Superstore Online Grocery Shopping
This has been life changing for me!! I don’t know why but grocery shopping gives me crazy anxiety…I know I know, such a weirdo. I think it’s just the too many people and it plain old drives me crazy. Well not anymore, my dreams have come true! I shop for most other things online…why not groceries! Superstore’s Online shopping has made eating healthy and sticking to my budget so much easier, I can’t even imagine how awesome it must be for people with kids!

Prior to being able to do this, I would put off grocery shopping forever and not have any food in my house, thus going out more often and spending more. So this has been helping me not only eating healthier…but sticking to my budget better! The other thing I like about it is it gives you lots of time to compare items and prices, and not feel like you’re in someone’s way while considering if the No Name brand pasta is really as good as the other brands.

Since it’s only $3, you pick the time to pick up your order, and you can use your own bags; this service is so so worth it to me! Not to mention a serious mental health savior. Everyone has their thing, right?

Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning
This is my newest food obsession. We get so ripped off in Canada without access to stores like Target and Trader Joe’s, but I certainly stocked up whilst I was in Oregon in July. I had heard so many good things about this seasoning and holy man it did not disappoint.

OregonGetting our Trader Joe’s drinks in our new Target cups…told you I was obsessed!

It’s a mix of sesame seeds, garlic, onion, salt and poppy seeds and it’s good on everything, or at least everything I’ve tried it on. I love it on avocado toast, eggs, veggies…the ideas are endless. If you’re at Trader Joe’s buy it…buy lots (and maybe buy me one or two!?).

Trader Joe's

This weekend I don’t have much planned. I have a few clients tomorrow and that’s about it. I’d like to try and get out to the lake for the day Sunday, but that is seriously weather dependent. No one wants to go sit outside in this horrendous smoke, but I want to get as many boat days in as possible before it gets too cold!!
Shuswap Friday

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Favourite Things Friday 3 (plus a little catch-up)

Okay, it’s official, you can call me a serious blogging slacker for the last two weeks.

I didn’t mean to be, I do have a lot of post ideas and half written drafts…but summer is just so busy and fun! Sometimes sitting down to my computer is the last thing I want to do. So today’s post is going to be a little catch-up/favourite things Friday combo! Basically, all my reader’s dreams come true I’m assuming.

There is sort of only one favourite thing from this week…keep reading to find out!

Let’s start with last weekend! Friday kicked off with heading down to the local brewpub, Red Collar Brewing, for drinks and appies before going to Music in the Park. We were a bit slow and only saw about half an hour of the concert, but the music was great! We’re super lucky in Kamloops to have this event on every night of the summer! It is definitely one of my favourite things to do in the summer, so nice to bring dinner and some drinks down there.

Next up for the weekend was heading to the Highland Games! Now this was certainly completely random, but after seeing a little sign advertising it, we managed to get a group interested and headed out to see it. It was seriously super hot out on Saturday and because of a massive amount of wildfires happening in British Columbia at the moment, the air has been reallllly smokey, like hard to breathe smokey.

Not the greatest photo, but gives an idea of how smokey the weekend was

Although the Highland Games were entertaining and there was a beer garden, it was just too darn hot to be sitting on the stands right in the sun, so we didn’t last too long. Saturday night everyone just came over to my house for drinks and games and some much needed air conditioning!

My top favourite of this week is that…I got a KITTEN!!

I adopted the most adorable little boy baby kitten from the SPCA on Wednesday and lets just say I’m already a little bit obsessed. Lucy the dog on the other hand…pretty pissed and not feeling like sharing her momma with this apparently terrifying 2lb kitten.

Giving Lucy some love!

Little kitty is still nameless at this point but I’m taking suggestions!

Up next for this weekend (which is looking gorgeous and smoke free thus far!!), is more weddings! I’m doing the hair for my friend Jamie’s wedding and then attending! I’m really looking forward it. I have lots of friends also going and it’s at a local golf course that looks beautiful! The summer of love continues.

Blame my blog slacking on other people’s weddings 😉

What are you up to this weekend? Do you have any suggestions on getting a dog and kitten to start liking each other? Or any adorable (or hilarious) kitten names!?

Favourite Things Friday 2

Holy cow, this week has flown by!! I can’t believe Friday is here already, but after a big weekend and feeling half asleep most of the week, I’m happy about it! That means it’s time for another Favourite Things Friday!

It’s the last day of June, which has been a super busy month for me. We are finally getting hot weather (34 Celcius today!!), and I feel like summer is here now.

It’s Canada Day this weekend, our 150th birthday! I’m hoping to spend some time with friends, get out on the boat and hopefully check out some fireworks!

That being said here are my favs from the past week!

1. Murray and Kara’s Wedding!!
This one of course is a no brainer on the list. I am working on a post about last weekend, but it was seriously some of the funnest three days I’ve had in a long time. It was so amazing to be able to spend the weekend with all of our best friends, drinking, boating and celebrating Murray and Kara. They did a fantastic job organizing it and the venue was seriously amazing.

Echo Beach Erickson Wedding
Carmel Cove is a gorgeous resort community on Shuswap Lake, an awesome hidden gem. Sadly, I was too busy all weekend to make use of all of the amenities, like the pool and hottub, but it was the perfect backdrop for the wedding.

2. Happy Hour – Raspberry Margaritas
I would say my margarita making skills have gone up significantly since my Cinqo de Mayo party last month. I love whipping up a quick marg on the rocks, especially when it`s nice and sunny out. Russell came over for a little happy hour on the patio last night so I threw together two raspberry margaritas for us.

1 oz tequila
Juice of half a lime
4 raspberries, muddled with ice
Half a bottle of Perrier
Splash of sweetener (I like the Skinnygirl liquid stevia)

3. Urban Outfitters Wall Hanging
You guys…I know I said I was going to work on my online shopping, but I haven`t been able to totally quit cold turkey. I ordered this amaze Selma Wall Hanging from Urban Outfitters and I`m sooo excited for it to come!! I love love the look of it! I`m not totally sure where in my apartment I`m going to put it, I sort of like the idea of having it in front of a window with the light coming through. I do have a lot of big empty walls to still fill up though.

I’m also getting super into the idea of having a lot of hanging plants in my place (have you seen Bev Cook’s plant post!? I’m obsessed). So I’m on the hunt for some cute, and reasonably priced planters.

4. Long Weekend!!!
Oh hey Canada Day coming up, I see you! Time to put some fake tattoos on our cheeks, paint our faces red and fly the flag? …maybe not. I generally don’t get too fired up about Canada Day, and thus far my friends and I have zero activities planned, but it’s Canada`s 150, so I feel like we should probably get up to something.

Canada DayCanada Day
It`s gonna be hottttt this weekend so I`m hoping I can get a group out to the lake to cool off on the pontoon and maybe check out some fireworks. Everyone seems to be movin’ a little slow after the 3 days of shenanigans last weekend, but I’m hopeful I can get people going.

What do you have planned for the weekend? I hope you have a great weekend, whether you’re celebrating Canada Day or Independence Day, enjoy!
