Iron Road Brewing & Shuswap Saturdays

This past weekend was fantastic! I can’t believe it was already the last weekend of August…where has this summer gone?!

Thankfully Kamloops is back to hot weather and clear skies, just like summer should be.

Friday evening I met up with some friends at a new brew pub in town, Iron Road Brewing. We got there at about 7pm and the place was packed. We took a seat at the bar, got some drinks and waited for a table to free up. We didn’t have to wait long and soon we all had drinks and dinner was en route.

Iron Road has a small menu of mostly tacos, quesadillas and nachos! I went with 1 shrimp taco and 1 veggie taco. They were cheap, but quite small. I wouldn’t say I’d go out of my way to go there for food but the beer was good and they have a great ambiance. ¬†We all tried different kinds of beer and Denise and I went with the tasting flight to get a little bit of everything. My vote for favourite was the Locomotive Lager.

I will definitely head back there, it’s nice to have a new place to check out – Kamloops could certainly use more pubs and lounges!

Saturday morning it was time to head to the lake! Between the not great weather and severe smoke, it had been waaaay too long since I got to spend the day out at the Shuswap and I was seriously missing it. We spent the day floating at Copper Island, swimming and playing a super fun drinking game, Picolo. It’s an app and so much fun!

After a yummy dinner at Finz Bar and packing up the boat it was time to head home. Between the sun, fresh air and a few drinks I think everyone was tuckered out and we all just went home.

Sunday was a super productive day for me. I managed to clean my entire house, even handwashing the floors. This may sound like the most boring thing ever, but it was so satisfying. Between the dog and cat and me, it can get dirty real quick!

All in all it was a really great weekend, and now we’re heading into a long weekend!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic last week of August. Any exciting plans for the long weekend?

Birthday celebrations at Monte Creek Ranch!

Last week was my birthday…and it was awesome! I am totally one of those birthday loving people, bring on the attention, cake and presents.

I was planning on just going out for dinner with family and friends – but my mom saw that a local winery was hosting a music event on my birthday so we decided to head out there.

My birthday day was fantastic from the beginning, from coffee and breakfast with Ash, lunch with another friend and then heading out to Monte Creek Ranch Winery.

The tickets for the event were only $10 and included a wine tasting (my fav activity, if you didn’t know that by now). My mom and Erica really went above and beyond and brought a whole table full of food and 3 (yes THREE) cakes!

I think everyone had a fantastic time, the band was great and the wine was even better. It was so nice to be able to lounge on the lawn, play some games and relax while visiting with everyone. Of course, it didn’t hurt that I also got presents and had all my favourite people with me.

The music finished around 9 and we stuck around until the employees kicked us out…apparently, they wanted to head home. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate turning 28!

It’s My Birthday! (Again!)

Oh hey, just a 28 year old over here! I thought I’d keep on last years theme and do a picture round up from the last year. What a doozy of a year it was, coming home from traveling, buying my first home, plenty of weddings and fun and even getting Lucy a kitty sibling! Without being too wordy I’ll show ya!
